Think affirmations are a bunch of BS?
Two examples to ponder:
- Scott Adams – creator of the Dilbert comic series – attributes his success to the use of positive affirmations. 15 times every day, he wrote “I Scott Adams, will become a syndicated cartoonist.” By doing this, he anchored the concept deep into his psyche and began to see opportunities that had been unavailable to him prior to those moments.
- Jim Carrey – actor and artist – grew up so poor that for a time his family lived in their VW van on a relative’s lawn. Every night in the late 1980s, Carrey would drive to a large hill that looked down over LA and imagine directors valuing him and his work. He was broke at the time and struggling as a comic. In 1990, while looking down on LA and imagining his future as he’d done so many times before, he wrote himself a $10MM check and put in the memo portion “for acting services rendered.” He dated the check for Thanksgiving 1995 and put it in his wallet. Just before that five-year deadline, he was paid $10MM for starring in Dumb and Dumber.
When you believe it, you’ll see it. Give it a try, it just might work.
