“Not every day is a good day, live anyway.
Not everyone will tell you the truth, be honest anyway.
Not all deals are fair, play fair anyway.
Not all you love will love you back, love anyway.”
For those of us living into 2020, working to be resilient, seize the opportunities, stay positive and maintain composure, quotes like this can feel like a balm to our being, reminding us character is linked to integrity.
For those of us waiting for 2020 to end, wishing it would turn the page into 2021, struggling with resilience, tired of solving seemingly endless challenges, stung by overdone positivity, and feeling emotionally off-kilter, quotes like this can feel like a provocation, bringing out the cynical side of our nature.
If you’ve vacillated between both worlds this year, you’re normal. It’s okay to bounce between hope and hopelessness, resilience and exhaustion, possibility and pessimism. Keep bouncing, don’t overstay your capacity either direction. We will get through this; we just don’t know when quite yet.
