Nourishment is not just “nutrition.” Nourishment is the nutrients in the food, the taste, the aroma, the ambiance of the room, the conversation at the table, the love and inspiration in the cooking, and the joy of the entire experience.
Often, I look at food only as fuel, yet it’s so much more than that. I take for granted it’s there, and always will be. For many, it’s not so.
Years ago, when life was a lot more challenging than it is for me now, I prioritized my spending toward housing and food. It wasn’t an easy time in life. This is the case for many people, especially right now. Because of this, we give consumables to our clients in gratitude at this time every year. Our hope is they enjoy it or pass it to someone who may benefit from having it.
Day 16: This week, spend time appreciating the farmers, producers, and field hands who work tirelessly to keep us all fed as you take a bite and swallow a drink. Having food available, sharing it, and enjoying it are all gifts. Many hands and hearts keep it all flowing.
As our Thanksgiving holiday approaches with all its indulgences and tryptophantasicness, consider a donation to a food shelf, adding a person or family to your celebration, or a Friendsgiving event to nourish your life and the lives of others.
