I consider myself a pretty efficient person, yet when I read this Charles Richards quote, I realized how much time I waste on a regular basis.
He said, “Don’t be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One person gets only a week’s value out of a year while another gets a full year’s value out of a week.”
A ton of time gets wasted because of short-sighted decisions. When you only think about now, you miss the big picture. At the same time, when you’re living in the future, you miss being present.
Worrying about what hasn’t happened yet robs you of the present. Focusing only on what’s possible leaves you in a gap and can lead to comparing to a perfect image of what’s not yet happening.
The juggling act of looking to the future to clearly choose the path and align our actions with the big Yes’s and No’s is a daily balance with all that is occurring right now. Being able to partner with those around you to coordinate what the balance is results in success.
Myopic thinking and catastrophizing kills what’s possible along with your productivity today.
