Rest.
It’s an easily neglected, almost forgotten part of any self-proclaimed overachiever’s health routine.
For years, I prided myself of the high energy I came into the world with, easily going without sleep in my twenties and thirties while also maintaining my performance for days and weeks on end. It was a gift I could tap into without reservation.
As I’ve aged, learned more, and also educated myself, I realize how shortsighted I’ve been.
As I sit on our beautiful patio in the warmth of Mexico, I’m appreciating the rest I’ve gotten.
Early evenings and early mornings suit me well and I can feel the difference when I’m rested or not.
Doing great work, maintaining a great attitude, and being available for the hard things requires perspective and gas in the tank.
Remembering to consciously take time to refuel isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.
When navigating challenges in life, include rest in the plan.
It’s taken me a long time to appreciate this learning.
Today, I’m fully present to it.
