Recently, I was recognized by a team as being fearless.

Though I was touched from what they offered as a compliment, I had to laugh out loud as well. If there’s anything I’m not, it’s fearless. I believe I’m courageous and confident in my abilities, yet I don’t think of that as fearless.

In the same way I appreciate the adage “courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s having the fear and doing it anyway,” I appreciate there are things I worry about and interrupt my outward facing confidence.

I prefer to think of being fearless as the ability to fear less. The word itself answers how to practice.

When I fear less, I move forward easily, I can respond and flow with whatever is occurring around me. I’m not finding the evidence from my past which would suggest I should be afraid. I’m also not borrowing from the future with worries I may never experience.

When I keep it simple, being present is how I fear less.
