Benjamin Franklin said “tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
How many times do we as leaders tell or teach people and land in frustration when those we’ve told or taught don’t execute in the way we’d expected?
If I was a betting person, I’d say it’s better than 80% of the time.
When working with teams, I remind them repetition is the mother of learning. And still, if all we do is repeat ourselves, it falls short of engagement and involvement. Our concerns with mistakes, ease and convenience interrupt the healthy path to involvement resulting in learning.
Calculating the time, energy, and money it takes to repeat the lessons, perhaps a path of partnership and apprenticeship is more effective?
It takes repetition and practice to learn anything.
Where can you begin and who will benefit?
