Have you ever felt like you’re “off,” but you can’t put your finger on why or what exactly is “off?” I sure have. Typically, when this happens, I’m running too fast, my calendar is packed (maybe even MORE than usual), and I have no space or time to think. Life seems transactional, simply moving from one thing to another.
When this occurs, if you describe it to others, you’ll typically get some great time management tips. People share all kinds of ways to make time for yourself or recalibrate your time and though this can be temporarily helpful, it’s like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Though it may look nicer for the time being, the ship is still going down. Trying to affect change from the outside in rarely works.
I’ve referenced this before – you have to create space in order to have the space to create, and that applies here. When I’m feeling misaligned and “off”, but I don’t know why, it’s not entirely a matter of time management. What I need is blank space. Time for nothing or no-thing. That ache, void, or gap can only be understood when there is space between your ears to listen; to feel; to wonder; to wander.
It’s in the space and quiet where you’ll find your answer. It’s likely not what you think. It’s likely time for a change. When you create that space, you’ll open yourself to what’s next. Are you ready? Something inside you says you are. Will you listen?
