Whenever you anticipate something new or an unexpected change, you’re bombarded with feelings. Your anticipation, excitement, fear, doubt and everything in between. How can you reframe these moments to be catalysts for action rather than a speed bump or stuck point?
For me, I need to focus on what my first step forward can be. The question “why not me?” helps me get over the Imposter Syndrome that visits in these moments. Once I’ve decided I’m as likely as the next person I’m comparing myself to, I write down my ideas, actions and thoughts.
Writing helps me sort through the plethora of thoughts racing as my mind plays ping pong with all the possibilities. I find peace in grounding myself through “seeing” my thoughts and patterns or themes of my thinking. I’m comforted doing something and waiting can be the hardest part as life unfolds – even when life seems to be happening at a breakneck pace.
Hugh Laurie said it well “It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.”
Now is my favorite time. What are you waiting for?
