50%. Halfway. HALFway and I haven’t missed a day. Halfway should feel like a celebration, but it doesn’t. It feels like the line of demarcation I dislike the most. Half-way feels like half assed. Further, if I were to turn back halfway on a trip, I’d end up going the full distance with a different interpretation of my experience than if I focus forward and finish.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still feeling confident about reaching 1,000 daily blog posts. For those of you playing along, I check in every 50 posts to take a macro look and document what I’m learning through this process. I took @SethGodin’s challenge from this blog post and am still grateful I did it.
This year has offered so much to ponder and evaluate. I’d like to say I had more time, but truthfully, I’ve been busier than ever. I’ve gotten more rest and been home more than ever in my life, but I’m hustling through the evolution of 2020 and 2021. As I contemplate the learning right now, here’s what’s present for me:
At 50% (500/1,000):
- I’m frustrated in the middle. It’s not where I’m best. I’m a great starter and finisher…the middle, well…let’s just say I have work to do. If you want to know more, see yesterday’s blog “The Miserable Middle #499”. Enough said.
- I look forward to blogging most first thing in the morning. It’s when I have my best ideas and enjoy writing the most.
- I’m encouraged by everyone who writes, texts, shares or acknowledges the blog. It makes it feel more productive than writing for myself.
- It’s still hard some days and I’d rather not.
- It’s incredibly easy some days and I knock them out quickly. I haven’t put my finger on what contributes other than the time of day.
- Keeping a book for blog ideas has been a gamechanger.
- Doing this publicly keeps me accountable.
- These milestone blogs inspire me to write; I like being contemplative about my learning.
- The discipline to do this affirms I can do anything every day when I set my mind to it.
- Doing something daily over years is worthwhile, and it’s okay to hate the middle, just keep going!
Thanks @sethgodin, this is a worthy and rewarding challenge! I will gratefully appreciate you for this life changing practice. Thank YOU for playing along, you keep me going!
